Overview

The UK business is growing successfully in the rapidly developing district and decentralised heat market in the UK. You will become a member of the fast-growing Engineering Team and will play a key role for developing and delivering the technical solution for low carbon heating and cooling networks. In our solutions, heat networks and power networks are integrated and digitalized, generation technology is low and zero carbon, and customers are provided with a high level of service, underpinned by Vattenfall’s long experience in operating decentralized networks across Europe, where we serve 600,000 heat customers.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop and deliver solutions for city wide district heating and cooling developments from opportunity to concept stage. You will have an exceptional understanding of good engineering design principles, awareness around heat networks commercial principles and have excellent stakeholder management skills. To be successful in this role you will have experience in delivering technoeconomic solutions through different project stages.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop city-wide district heating and cooling networks.
  • Create smart, zero-carbon energy solutions using technologies like heat pumps and heat exchangers.
  • Model system performance and optimise lifetime efficiency.
  • Collaborate with commercial, delivery, and operations teams to bring projects from concept to reality.
  • Ensure safety, quality, and compliance across all technical designs.
  • Engage with stakeholders including local authorities, developers, and suppliers.

Qualifications

  • A degree in mechanical, chemical, energy or process engineering.
  • Experience in district heating/cooling, energy systems, or EPC projects.
  • Strong design and modelling skills (hydraulic/process modelling, Python is a plus).
  • Knowledge of UK building regulations and heat network standards (CIBSE CP1).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for sustainability.
