The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 £ per year.
This position will be responsible for identifying, sifting, and selecting new onshore wind development prospects across GB at the very earliest stage of development, working alongside a larger team of project managers and other technical experts. The role will be focused on desk-based site prospecting to identify new onshore wind opportunities. Familiarity with environmental constraints, land ownership matters and trends, and knowledge of GIS software and systems are critical skills. The successful candidate will identify the best sites, model their environmental and economic potential for onshore wind development, represent Vattenfall in commercial negotiations with landowners and their representatives, and present options for formal project initiation to senior managers. The successful candidate will work in a small team of new sites specialists, and work as part of a broader team of development professionals. This is an opportunity to play a key part of the design team bringing forward new British wind projects which will power our lives with fossil‑free electricity.
Main responsibilities
- Deliver internal milestones and approvals for development phase (pre‑construction) onshore wind projects in Great Britain, working at the very earliest stages of project development.
- Maintain control over key ‘new sites’ project management documents and processes, such as budgets, prospective site decision documents, and archives.
- Model desk‑based constraints and the economic cases for new and present proposals for new onshore wind projects to senior decision‑makers.
- Support assessments and technical due diligence in acquisitions.
- Keep abreast of the latest planning, environmental, and land ownership trends and apply these to the site finding and selection process.
- In conjunction with Vattenfall’s in‑house land managers, initiate contact with prospective new site landowners and build trust and understanding in the development process and Vattenfall.
- Respond to tenders and expressions of interest initiated by public and private landowners. Travel within GB to meet landowners and their representatives should be expected.
- Create and maintain good long‑term relationships with other Vattenfall departments and external consultants involved in the projects, representing the projects under your control.
- Manage contracts with external consultants and professional advisers appointed to support project development.
- Help promote a safety‑conscious, professional team.
Qualifications

- Demonstrable knowledge of, and experience with, some of the main constraints affecting onshore wind development (e.g. planning policy, ornithology, ecology, or cultural heritage).

- Leadership skills to lead large teams of internal and external specialists and consultants.
- Team player, proactive and work well under pressure.
- Track record in project management.
- Ability to adapt easily to different environments (political stakeholders, farmers, government officials, business partners) and manage these different settings.
- Good communication skills, report writing, analytical and presentational skills.
- Good IT skills and competent at using Office 365 suite.
Desirable skills include:
- Formal project management qualifications (e.g. Association for Project Management or Prince2).
- Previous experience working in a development on renewable energy or other major infrastructure, preferably onshore wind.
- Knowledge of GIS software and constraints mapping approaches.
