Are you ready to use your expertise to help shape a more sustainable future? At Vattenfall, we are taking steps to become less dependent on fossil fuels, and our commitment starts with creating safer, healthier and more sustainable workplaces. As an Environment, Sustainability & Facility Advisor, you will play a key role in advancing our journey towards fossil freedom. We believe that by working together and sharing knowledge, we can accelerate meaningful change for both our company and society. If you are driven by purpose and want to make an impact where it matters most, we would like to hear from you.

Your role / what will you do? In this role, you’ll be at the heart of Vattenfall’s commitment to driving sustainable facility management and supporting our long‑term goal of fossil freedom. You’ll play a vital part in advancing environmental initiatives and strengthening collaboration across teams, suppliers, and stakeholders. Your daily work will combine strategic oversight with hands‑on involvement, ensuring that both compliance and innovation are embedded in everything we do.

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Leading environmental management programmes in line with ISO standards, making sure compliance is maintained and improvements are identified.
  • Monitoring and reporting on Environmental and Sustainability (EnSu) KPIs, fostering transparency and accountability throughout our operations.
  • Reviewing suppliers’ environmental performance to ensure contractual and regulatory requirements are met, while encouraging sustainable procurement practices.
  • Developing biodiversity projects at office locations and representing UK REFM in cross‑regional sustainability forums.
  • Supporting energy efficiency initiatives such as LED upgrades, green gas adoption, water reduction measures, and EV charging infrastructure.

You’ll also manage a diverse portfolio of REFM contracts together with the REFM Manager UK. By building strong relationships with contractors, landlords, staff functions, business units, and supplier teams you help us achieve ambitious targets for service delivery and sustainability. Your role extends to guiding the UK Facility Officers, responsibility for UK travel including the operational steering of Egencia (Vattenfall’s Travel Provider), management of UK Fleet alongside People & Culture, and contributing to internal communications that promote awareness of REFM and our sustainability goals. Developing use of big data you will inform decision‑making processes within REFM. Whether you’re driving international or local projects or supporting major office fit‑outs and relocations by integrating EnSu requirements from the outset—your efforts directly support our Sustainability Roadmap. Working collaboratively across functions ensures that every initiative benefits both Vattenfall’s people and wider society.

Location: This position is based in Hexham or Edinburgh, supporting our UK operations and representing the UK in international Real Estate and Facility Management projects. You will work alongside experienced colleagues across Europe, shaping the future of Vattenfall’s workplaces and driving sustainability—without direct line management but with real influence over teams, suppliers, and contractors.

Your profile / who are you? You bring a solid foundation in environmental and sustainability management, ideally gained within a corporate or real estate setting. Your experience equips you to navigate the demands of working across diverse teams and business units. You have an understanding of ISO environmental standards such as ISO 14001, and you are confident in applying these frameworks to drive compliance and improvement. Your background includes working with contractors and suppliers, where you have fostered constructive relationships that support both operational excellence and sustainability goals. We value your ability to communicate clearly with colleagues at all levels. You approach challenges proactively, often identifying opportunities for process improvements that benefit the wider team. Managing varied tasks energises you, and you enjoy collaborating on projects that span international borders.

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • Minimum three years’ practical experience in environmental and sustainability management
  • Knowledge of ISO standards, especially ISO 14001
  • Experience engaging with contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to enhance service delivery
  • Proven track record reporting on KPIs linked to sustainability or circularity programmes
  • Project management skills that enable you to deliver initiatives from concept through to completion

You are enthusiastic about driving positive change and promoting sustainable practices within a collaborative environment. You are comfortable travelling within Europe when needed and thrive when your work connects people, data, and ideas for meaningful impact. The successful candidate will need to have the right to work in the UK.

Additional Information: Our offer includes good remuneration, a challenging and international work environment, and the possibility to work with some of the best in the field.
