This leading Legal 500 firm is seeking an experienced Corporate Commercial Partner to establish and lead a brand-new Corporate Commercial department. This is a rare opportunity to build a practice with the support of an established firm that already enjoys a strong reputation across several key practice areas. You will benefit from a steady stream of internal referrals while having the autonomy to shape the department, develop its strategy, and grow a successful team. The firm has an established client base and a thriving Dispute Resolution and Commercial Property practice, creating significant opportunities for cross-referrals from day one. This role would particularly suit a Partner or senior solicitor with an existing client following who is looking for greater autonomy.

The Role

  • As head of the Corporate Commercial department, you will play a central role in developing and expanding the firm's corporate offering.
  • Working closely with the firm's leadership team, you will be responsible for building a successful practice while continuing to advise clients on a broad range of corporate and commercial matters.
  • The work will include:
    • Advising on mergers and acquisitions, shareholder agreements, joint ventures, corporate restructures, and commercial contracts.
    • Managing complex corporate transactions from instruction through to completion.
    • Developing and implementing the strategy for the Corporate Commercial department.
    • Building, mentoring and leading a high-performing team as the department grows.
    • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the firm to maximise cross-referral opportunities.
    • Developing and strengthening client relationships while identifying opportunities for business growth.
    • Representing the firm within the business community through networking and professional events.
    • Managing the financial performance and profitability of the department.

Requirements

  • You will be an experienced Corporate Commercial solicitor with the commercial awareness and leadership skills to build and grow a successful practice.
  • You will ideally have:
    • Circa 7+ PQE as a solicitor qualified in England and Wales.
    • Extensive experience advising businesses on a broad range of corporate and commercial matters.
    • A strong track record in business development and client relationship management.
    • An established client following or the ability to generate new business.
    • Previous leadership or partnership experience, or a genuine ambition to step into a strategic leadership role.
    • Excellent technical, negotiation and drafting skills.
    • A collaborative approach combined with strong commercial judgement and an entrepreneurial mindset.
