This leading Legal 500 firm, which is highly tiered in family and hosts multiple recommended lawyers, is looking for an experienced Childcare Solicitor to lead their established Childcare team. This is a senior leadership role where you will have autonomy in shaping the future of a growing department. You'll lead a talented team, manage a complex caseload of your own and work closely with senior management.
The Role
As Head of Department, you will oversee the day-to-day running of the Childcare team while continuing to handle a varied caseload of public law children matters. Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing complex public childcare cases, including care proceedings, emergency protection applications, special guardianship matters and associated family law work.
- Representing parents, children, guardians and other parties in court.
- Delivering high-quality legal advice and maintaining exceptional standards of client care.
- Ensuring compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements, SRA regulations and court deadlines.
- Supervising complex and sensitive matters across the department.
- Leading, mentoring and supporting solicitors, trainees and paralegals.
- Conducting appraisals, identifying training needs and supporting professional development.
- Monitoring departmental performance, financial targets and resource allocation.
- Working with senior management to support the continued growth and development of the department.
Requirements
You will be an experienced childcare solicitor with the confidence and ability to lead a successful team. You will have:
- Circa 7PQE with extensive experience in public childcare law.
- Membership of the Law Society Children Panel.
- Strong advocacy and case management skills.
- A proven track record of supervising and developing legal professionals.
- Sound knowledge of Legal Aid funding and compliance.
- Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.
- A collaborative approach and a genuine commitment to delivering outstanding client service.
Remuneration
Competitive salary, dependent on experience. Hybrid working with flexibility.
