We're working closely with a Top Tier Legal 500 law firm that is looking to recruit a Head of Department for their growing Private Client department. This role will be based out of one of their offices in South Devon.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced private client solicitor (5+ PQE) with strong leadership qualities who is looking to take the next step in their career or is already leading a team and looking for a fresh challenge. You'll play a key role in shaping the future of the department while continuing to build strong, long‑term relationships with clients.

The Role

Alongside managing your own varied caseload of private client matters, you will lead and support an established team and play an active role in the continued growth of the department.

Your caseload will include:

• Wills
• Lasting Powers of Attorney
• Estate administration
• Tax and estate planning
• Court of Protection work

You’ll also be involved in mentoring colleagues, developing the department, driving business development initiatives and maintaining the high standards of client care the firm is known for.

Requirements

You’ll be a qualified Solicitor (5+ PQE) with significant experience in private client.

We’re looking for someone who:

• Has strong technical knowledge across private client matters
• Demonstrates proven leadership qualities and enjoys mentoring and developing others
• Provides an excellent level of client care
• Is confident managing a complex caseload
• Enjoys building long‑term relationships with clients and professional contacts
• Has a commercial approach and is keen to contribute to the continued growth of the department

STEP qualification or SFE membership would be an advantage but isn’t essential.
