About the Role

Chit Chat 4 U Retro Diner, based in the Potteries Centre in Hanley, is looking for volunteers to join its friendly team. The diner supports the work of Chit Chat 4 U All, a charity dedicated to preventing knife crime, gang involvement, and youth violence. This is a great opportunity to gain experience, meet new people, and support an important local cause.

What You'll Do

There are opportunities to volunteer in both the kitchen and front-of-house areas of the diner.

As a Chef/Cook Volunteer, you will assist with preparing, cooking, and serving food within the café. Duties may include basic food preparation, serving meals, supporting the Lead Volunteer with relevant paperwork and checks, following health and safety procedures, cleaning kitchen equipment and work areas, disposing of waste safely, and ensuring the kitchen is left clean and tidy at the end of each shift.

Volunteers may also support front-of-house activities, including taking orders, serving hot and cold drinks, clearing and sanitising tables, maintaining a clean café environment, and providing a welcoming experience for customers and visitors.

Skills and Attributes

We are looking for volunteers who are friendly, approachable, and enthusiastic. You should enjoy working with people, be willing to learn, and be able to work as part of a team in a busy environment. An interest in catering, customer service, or community work would be beneficial. Volunteers must be aged 18 or over.

Benefits to You

This role offers the opportunity to gain valuable experience in catering, food preparation, customer service, and teamwork. You will develop confidence, organisational skills, and practical experience while contributing to a charity that supports young people and the wider community. You will also become part of a supportive and welcoming volunteer team.

Training and Expenses

Training and support will be provided to help you feel confident in your role. Travel expenses can be reimbursed.

Hours and Commitment

Volunteers are welcome Monday to Saturday between 8:30am and 6:00pm, although the diner typically closes around 4:00pm. Flexible volunteering opportunities are available to fit around your availability.
