Stoke-on-Trent Sea Cadets is a local unit of the national Sea Cadets organisation, providing exciting and rewarding training opportunities for young people aged 10 to 18. As a youth development organisation inspired by the values and traditions of the Royal Navy, Sea Cadets helps young people build confidence, teamwork, leadership skills and self-discipline in a supportive environment.
Training has a strong focus on water-based activities, including rowing, paddleboarding and kayaking, while also offering instruction in practical skills such as first aid, navigation and seamanship. Cadets have the opportunity to take part in adventurous activities, attend week-long boating and training courses, and gain nationally recognised qualifications that can support their future education, employment and personal development.
Governance is provided by a team of volunteer Trustees who form the Unit Management Team. The Trustee Board is led by a Chairperson, who works closely with the uniformed Commanding Officer to ensure the effective running of the unit. Together, they oversee key areas including health and safety, safeguarding, finance, facilities management and fundraising. The unit currently has six Trustees and a membership of approximately 40 cadets, who attend on Tuesday and Friday evenings. Through the commitment of its volunteers, the unit provides a safe, inclusive and engaging environment in which young people can develop valuable skills, confidence and lifelong friendships.
