We are seeking experienced Payments Solution Architects to support a major UK banking payments modernisation programme. The successful candidates will play a key role in transforming and migrating legacy payment platforms into a modern Payments Hub, enabling scalable, compliant and ISO 20022-native payment processing across multiple UK and international payment schemes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and govern end-to-end payments architecture across orchestration, clearing, settlement, reconciliation, exceptions and returns
  • Define and document functional and logical architecture for modern payment platforms and integrations
  • Support the migration of legacy payment systems into a modern Payments Hub environment
  • Design solutions aligned to ISO 20022 standards across multiple schemes and payment types
  • Ensure compliance with scheme rules, settlement cycles, messaging flows and operational controls
  • Review and govern technical designs produced by engineering and delivery teams
  • Collaborate with business, delivery and operations stakeholders to ensure scalable and fit-for-purpose solutions
  • Support large-scale transformation programmes across multiple payment rails and banking platforms
Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong Payments domain expertise is essential
  • Extensive experience across payment orchestration, order management, clearing, settlement, reconciliations, exceptions and returns
  • Hands-on scheme knowledge across Faster Payments, CHAPS, SWIFT, Bacs, SEPA and Cheques
  • Deep expertise in ISO 20022, including message structures, validation, data models and scheme-specific variations
  • Proven experience designing or reviewing end-to-end ISO 20022 implementations
  • Strong Solution Architecture experience within complex banking or financial services environments
  • Ability to create architecture models, define system interactions and govern delivery
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Delivery-focused mindset with the ability to operate independently
Desirable Skills
  • Exposure to Pagonext would be highly beneficial
  • Knowledge of BIAN, TOGAF, ArchiMate or C4
  • Experience with APIs, microservices and cloud platforms such as AWS
  • Exposure to large-scale banking or payments transformation programmes
