A Local Authority, based in Gloucestershire, is seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Team Leaderto lead and support its Private Sector Housing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced PSH professional with strong technical knowledge and leadership experience to take responsibility for the effective management of the team's day-to-day activities, while providing guidance.

You will play a key role in ensuring the council delivers an effective, responsive and legally compliant Private Sector Housing service, helping to improve housing conditions and protect residents across the borough.

The Role and Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise and support a team of Private Sector Housing Officers, ensuring workloads are effectively allocated and managed.
  • Monitor team performance, caseloads, targets and statutory deadlines, taking action where required to maintain service standards.
  • Provide technical advice and professional guidance to officers dealing with complex housing conditions and enforcement cases.
  • Oversee the investigation of complaints relating to poor housing conditions, disrepair, damp and mould and other private sector housing matters.
  • Ensure properties are appropriately assessed under the Housing Act 2004and Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
  • Oversee HMO licensingactivity, including applications, inspections, licence conditions and enforcement.
  • Review and authorise enforcement action, including Improvement Notices, Prohibition Orders, Civil Penalties and other appropriate statutory measures.

Essential requirements

  • Significant experience working within a Local Authority Private Sector Housing service.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Housing Act 2004 and HHSRS.
  • Extensive experience ofhousing enforcement and HMO licensing.
  • Experience providing technical advice, mentoring and support to housing officers.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
