A Local Authority in Central England is seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Manager to lead their Private Sector Housing function on an interim basis. This is a key leadership role, offering the opportunity to shape service delivery and support the team through a period of legislative change, particularly in preparation for the Renter’s Rights Bill.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Private Sector Housing team, ensuring effective service delivery across all functions
- Oversee enforcement, housing standards, and regulatory compliance within the private rented sector
- Prepare the service for the implementation of the Renter’s Rights Bill, including reviewing policies, procedures, and operational readiness
- Provide strategic direction and operational oversight to ensure the team is aligned with upcoming legislative requirements
- Support and develop team members, driving performance and maintaining high service standards
- Work collaboratively with senior stakeholders across the Council
Requirements
- Proven experience managing a Private Sector Housing or Environmental Health team within a Local Authority
- Strong understanding of housing legislation, enforcement, and regulatory frameworks
- Experience preparing services for legislative or policy changes (experience relating to the Renter’s Rights Bill highly desirable)
- Confident leadership and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to hit the ground running in an interim environment
Working Arrangements
- Flexible hybrid model – 1–2 days per week on-site, remainder remote
- Initial 3-month contract with strong likelihood of extension
