A local authority in Hertfordshire is seeking an experienced Food Safety Team Leader to join their Environmental Health service on an interim basis. This is a key leadership role, responsible for managing and supporting a team of Food Safety / Environmental Health Officers to ensure the delivery of statutory food safety functions and the protection of public health.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and support a team of Food Safety / Environmental Health Officers
- Oversee food hygiene inspections, interventions, and enforcement activity
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, codes of practice, and council policies
- Manage workloads, performance, and quality assurance within the team
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and case support where required
- Support service planning and help maintain performance against national targets
Requirements
- Qualified Environmental Health Officer (EHRB / CIEH registered)
- Substantial experience in food safety enforcement within a local authority
- Proven experience in a supervisory or team leader role
- Strong knowledge of food safety legislation and enforcement procedures
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment
