Environmental Protection Officer

Hourly Rate: Β£40-45 an hour.
My client is looking for an experienced Environmental Protection Officer to join the Environmental Health team on an initial 6-month contract.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with broad Environmental Protection experience who are comfortable managing a varied caseload across multiple regulatory disciplines. The role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with a minimum of one site visit per week depending on operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigating statutory nuisance complaints, including noise and odour
  • Undertaking Environmental Protection investigations and enforcement activities
  • Assessing planning consultations and providing technical responses
  • Investigating waste crime and environmental offences
  • Supporting work relating to Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs)
  • Assisting with contaminated land investigations and associated regulatory duties
  • Providing professional advice to residents, businesses and internal stakeholders
  • Preparing reports, maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification in Environmental Health or an Environmental Protection-related subject
  • Experience working within Environmental Protection in a Local Authority setting
  • Strong knowledge of Environmental Protection legislation and enforcement practices
  • Environmental Information Regulations 2004
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use
  • Flexibility to work outside normal office hours, including evenings and weekends where required

  • Competitive hourly rate dependent on experience
