Varndean School requires an enthusiastic, committed and outstanding Deputy Head of School (head of year equivalent) to work closely with the Head of School to lead one of our five small schools. This is a full‑time position offered for one year as maternity cover.

Salary: For teaching staff the post carries a TLR2c (equivalent TLR 2.1) salary of £8,611. The support staff salary is Grade SO1/2 spinal point 23 – £34,434 – £39,152 pro rata, actual starting salary £29,831.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of tutors and pastoral specialists;
  • Set the strategic direction for the school;
  • Support the development of students through strong relationships with families;
