Varndean School requires an enthusiastic, committed and outstanding School Leader to join the pastoral and admin support teams. The successful candidate will work in one of our small school bases providing pastoral support to students. Small school bases are at the heart of school life and require someone with the flexibility to deal with normal daily student support routines at one moment; monitor the students’ behaviour and academic development at another as well as provide information to parents and other stakeholders when required. They also provide valuable admin and pastoral support to the Safeguarding Lead and the Deputy Head of School as they go about their duties. We are looking for someone to start in September. The role is Scale 6, Points 19-22 – £32,061 to £33,699, 37 hours per week, term time only.

Varndean School is an 11-16 school with around 1,500 students, set in a picturesque south‑coast location in the vibrant and diverse city of Brighton and Hove. Varndean is a Good (Ofsted 2022) and well‑established school already, we have made rapid progress over the past couple of years and have no intention of resting on our laurels. The potential here is immense and the successful applicant will play a role in supporting our students to develop World Class Learning. Varndean is an excellent place to work. Ofsted in 2022 described the “inspirational leaders”, the “expert” teachers, “impressive” pupils and the “exceptionally strong” staff training.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pastoral and admin support to students in a small school base.
  • Deal with daily student support routines and monitor students’ behaviour and academic development.
  • Provide information to parents and other stakeholders as required.
  • Support the Safeguarding Lead and the Deputy Head of School in safeguarding and welfare duties.
  • Work collaboratively with the pastoral and admin support teams.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of children and young people.
  • Will be subject to a DBS check.
