Job Description
Job Title: HR Manager
Salary: Up to £55k
Job Type: Permanent
Location: On-site in Reading

I’m recruiting for a fast-growing UK start-up that’s driving innovation in sustainable agriculture. With a strong focus on technology and environmental impact, the business is developing scalable solutions to support the future of farming. They’re building a passionate, forward-thinking team committed to making a positive difference in the sector.
You will report to the CEO and lead the HR and payroll function, overseeing policies, recruitment, training, and payroll. You’ll help shape a positive company culture and support the fast growth of this dynamic start-up.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day running of all HR operations
- Create and update HR policies to reflect legal changes and ensure employees are aware of them
- Manage the payroll process in collaboration with an external provider
- Support hiring managers in recruiting and retaining top talent
- Ensure new hires have a smooth and effective onboarding experience
- Help managers stay compliant with workplace health and safety regulations
- Lead annual performance reviews and salary evaluations
- Provide training, guidance, and coaching to employees when needed
- Manage employee relations, including investigations, disciplinary actions, and terminations
- Help resolve workplace issues through constructive and professional mediation
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of HR experience in a commercial environment
- Strong knowledge of UK employment law, including privacy and health & safety
- Confident managing payroll processes with solid numerical skills
- Skilled in staff training, coaching, and development
- Experienced in handling conflicts, disciplinary actions, and investigations
Desirable Experience
- Familiarity with the YouManage HR software platform
- Experience using Moorepay for payroll processing
- Exposure to international business operations or subsidiaries
- Full UK driving licence
