Vargo is supporting a multinational engineering business with the appointment of an experienced Engineering Manager to lead on R&D Projects, on a permanent basis. This is a technical leadership role responsible for leading the development of innovative solutions and ensuring the successful delivery of new products, customer-specific developments and technology improvement projects. The role combines technical leadership, project management and people management, supporting growth in custom-engineered solutions, new markets and technologies.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the development of new products and technologies.
- Drive the design and development of customer-specific solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers and designers.
- Review and approve technical designs, calculations, specifications and drawings.
- Support complex customer applications and technical problem-solving.
- Lead concept generation, feasibility studies, prototyping and product validation.
- Coordinate testing and verification programmes.
- Manage multiple R&D projects, ensuring delivery to agreed scope, budget and timescales.
- Allocate engineering resources effectively across projects.
- Provide technical support to Sales and Business Development teams.
- Work closely with Global R&D, Finance, Quality and Operations.
- Support product certification, technical documentation and engineering change control.
- The role will also involve supporting innovation, IP protection, product improvement and R&D-related activity.
About you
You will bring strong technical competence, commercial awareness and leadership capability. You’ll be confident leading technical projects, supporting engineers and working closely with customers and internal stakeholders.
Required experience includes:
- Degree in mechanical engineering, product design or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in product development or engineering.
- Experience managing technical projects.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience.
- Strong stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving ability.
