Assistant Accountant
Location: Cardiff
Salary: Β£35-40,000
Contract: Permanent
Working pattern: Full-time, on site
Vargo is supporting a growing Cardiff-based business with the appointment of an Assistant Accountant on a permanent basis.
This is a hands-on finance role suited to someone who can take ownership of day-to-day finance, month-end reporting and internal financial controls. The role would suit an ambitious finance professional who is looking for a broad, visible role within a growing business.
Key responsibilities

Prepare monthly management accounts and support month-end close.

Manage reconciliations, journals, accruals and prepayments.

Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow reporting.

Oversee purchase ledger, sales ledger and credit control activity.

Produce financial analysis and reporting for senior management.

Support VAT returns and statutory reporting requirements.

Maintain accurate records and robust internal controls.

Work closely with operational teams to improve financial visibility.

Support process improvements across the finance function.
About you
You will have solid practical finance experience and be comfortable working in an office-based role. Qualified status would be great but is not essential. Study support is available.
You should be:

Confident preparing management accounts or supporting month-end reporting.

Comfortable with reconciliations, journals and financial analysis.

Organised, accurate and able to manage competing deadlines.

Commercially aware and willing to work closely with non-finance colleagues.

Keen to develop within a broad Finance Manager position.
