The Cargo Systems Installation Manager is responsible for leading and managing the Global Cargo Systems Installation team supporting cargo industrial imaging systems, including LINAC (linear accelerator) systems and cargo inspection systems used in transportation, security, and industrial applications. This role ensures delivery of high-quality installation and support while maintaining strong customer satisfaction and compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of Installation engineers/techs to support installation, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and upgrades of LINAC and cargo inspection systems.
- Develop and implement operational strategies that drive installation excellence, including site acceptance and commissioning.
- Oversee escalation processes, root cause analysis and field fixes for critical issues.
- Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Product teams to improve installation readiness, execution and customer experience.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, radiation regulations and local laws where systems are deployed.
- Drive team training and certification programs to ensure deep technical knowledge across complex industrial systems.
- Develop and monitor KPIs related to installation timelines, time to install and other metrics that support continuous improvement related to Cargo Systems Installation.
- Support pre-sales and post-sales activities as a technical installation leader for system lifecycle planning and customer engagements.
- Collaborate with Logistics and Supply Chain teams to ensure parts availability and delivery for installation activities.
- Develop resource planning tools to ensure the team is not overlapping and has the capability to perform installations on time.
Minimum Required Skills and Knowledge
- Ability, competence and confidence to lead people.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in the local language and in English, both written and spoken.
- Manages activities of two or more sections or departments through subordinate managers who exercise full supervision in terms of costs, methods and staffing.
Typical Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- 10 years of related experience.
- 5 years of management experience.
Cooperate with other departments (local Sales, Installation, Applications, Order Processing, Product Support, Manufacturing, etc.) and provide them with the necessary support to provide the best service and maintenance services and optimize customer relations. Manage customer relations in all installation matters (installation timelines, contractual services, emergencies) to ensure customers can operate their Varex equipment according to technical and safety guidelines with the highest level of satisfaction. Establish an installation budget and monitor financial performance to ensure costs stay within expected budgetary amounts. Manage the regular reporting of all installation timelines, in-field execution, and any issues that need to be addressed by the Operations/Engineering teams. Assist the Service team with ensuring the correct supplies/warehousing are available for service after machines are turned over to the Service team for warranty. This role will work closely with the Cargo Systems Project Management team and will be expected to help direct and lead this team at times based on resource availability and customer needs.
Skills, Knowledge and Certifications
- Sound understanding and application of contract structuring, composition and contract negotiation and execution.
- Sound understanding and experience in establishing quotations, costing for jobs, monitoring costs and following up on execution.
- Experience developing a high-performing team.
- Experience managing global teams.
Required Certifications and Training
- Obtains and completes LMS training plan specific to assigned responsibility.
- PMP certification or similar training.
Experience Level with Business Tools
- Proficient in utilizing business tools such as e-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Proficient with project management tools.
- Experience with SAP or equivalent ERP products and productivity software desired.
