Vardey Recruitment Ltd is delighted to be supporting the recruitment of a qualified accountant to join a creative and fast-paced company who are experiencing strong growth located in the heart of Lymington - Hampshire. As the Finance Manager/Financial Controller, you will work directly with the CEO and support this ambitious, family-run business as it enters an exciting phase of expansion. We are seeking an experienced, commercially minded "hands-on" Accountant to lead a small finance team from the Lymington headquarters.
This is a pivotal role in shaping the financial direction of the business.
The Financial Manager/Financial Controller job role:
This is a senior, hands-on role within a fast-paced, project-driven environment. You will take full ownership of the finance function—combining strategic oversight with day-to-day involvement in the detail. As a member of the Leadership Team, you’ll provide clear financial insight to support commercial decision-making, while taking responsibility for all things finance related to include cash flow management, management accounts, and project profitability.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys rolling their sleeves up, being hands-on, commercially influential, and operationally involved - with an energetic approach to work and life! You may be an ambitious Management Accountant/Financial Accountant seeking a step forward or an experienced Financial Manager or Financial Controller.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Leadership & Management
- Lead the day-to-day finance function, including purchase ledger, cash control, and payroll.
- Prepare and present monthly management accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cashflow).
- Ensure robust financial controls and accurate reporting.
- Own cash flow management and rolling forecasts.
- Monitor income and expenditure across multiple projects.
- Identify cash flow risks early and propose mitigating actions.
- Work closely with Project Managers to track costs, revenues, and margins by project.
- Maintain accurate project tracking within the accounting system.
- Provide clear financial insight on project profitability.
- Challenge assumptions and highlight commercial risks and opportunities.
- Drive improvements to accounting systems, processes, and reporting.
- Lead, develop, and support a small finance team.
- Contribute to wider business planning and commercial strategy as part of the Leadership Team.
Skills & Experience required for this Finance Manager/Financial Controller Job:
- Ideally proven experience in a Finance Manager, Financial Controller, Management Accountant, Financial Accountant or similar senior finance role.
- Management experience or ability to supervise staff.
- Strong hands-on experience of cash flow management and forecasting.
- Experience in project-based or contract-led finance is desirable.
- CIMA/ACA/ACCA qualified or equivalent.
