The Financial Manager/Financial Controller Job Role
This is a senior, hands‑on role within a fast‑paced, project‑driven environment. You will take full ownership of the finance function—combining strategic oversight with day-to‑day involvement in the detail. As a member of the Leadership Team, you’ll provide clear financial insight to support commercial decision‑making, while taking responsibility for all aspects of finance including cash flow management, management accounts, and project profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Leadership & Management
- Lead the day‑to‑day finance function, including purchase ledger, cash control, and payroll.
- Prepare and present monthly management accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cashflow).
- Ensure robust financial controls and accurate reporting.
- Cashflow & Forecasting
- Own cash flow management and rolling forecasts.
- Monitor income and expenditure across multiple projects.
- Identify cash flow risks early and propose mitigating actions.
- Project & Commercial Finance
- Work closely with Project Managers to track costs, revenues, and margins by project.
- Maintain accurate project tracking within the accounting system.
- Provide clear financial insight on project profitability.
- Challenge assumptions and highlight commercial risks and opportunities.
- Systems, Processes & Team Leadership
- Drive improvements to accounting systems, processes, and reporting.
- Lead, develop, and support a small finance team.
- Contribute to wider business planning and commercial strategy as part of the Leadership Team.
