As HR Officer, you will play an important role in supporting the HR team within a growing retail business, helping us provide an excellent, responsive and professional HR service to our stores, Head Office, warehouse teams and wider stakeholders.

You will support managers and colleagues through key stages of the employee lifecycle, helping ensure our people processes are well organised, consistent and delivered with care.

This is a varied, hands‑on role where you will support routine employee relations and absence management activity, contribute to the successful implementation of a new HR system, help build strong relationships across the business and support employee engagement initiatives that create a positive workplace environment.

The role would suit someone who is approachable, organised, loves data, tech savvy and motivated by helping Angling Direct continue to grow as an employer of choice.

  • What You’ll Be Doing
  • Provide practical, timely and professional HR support to stores, Head Office, warehouse teams and wider stakeholders through the HR inbox and day‑to‑day people queries
  • Provide support to the HR team in supporting line managers with routine employee relations matters, including absence, conduct, capability and grievance queries, helping ensure fair and consistent processes are followed.
  • Support short and long‑term absence management processes, including return‑to‑work documentation, trigger reviews, Occupational Health referrals and follow‑up actions.
  • Provide practical guidance to managers on HR policy, process and routine people matters, escalating more complex cases where appropriate.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing administration of a new HR system, helping improve data accuracy, reporting, colleague lifecycle processes and the overall manager and colleague experience.
  • Support recruitment and onboarding activity where required, helping create a consistent and positive experience for new starters.
  • Build positive working relationships across the business, acting as a helpful and professional point of contact for managers, colleagues and key internal stakeholders.
  • Support and lead employee engagement initiatives, communications and activities that help create an inclusive, positive and high‑performing workplace environment.
  • What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a vibrant, practical, credible and service‑focused HR professional who enjoys technology, data, supporting others and building strong relationships.

You may already be working as an HR Officer, HR Coordinator or HR Administrator, or you may be ready to take the next step in a busy generalist HR environment within a growing retail business.

You will bring strong organisational skills, attention to detail & data and the confidence to support managers and colleagues with routine people matters in line with policy and process.

CIPD Level 3, working towards this, or equivalent hands‑on HR experience would be ideal.

Experience in retail, logistics or a multi‑site environment would be a real advantage, alongside previous experience supporting ER casework, absence management, HR systems, recruitment administration or engagement activity (but not essential).
