The Clinical Training Specialist (CTS) role is a “Patient Training and Education expert” in Home Therapies for Vulnerable Adults. The CTS partners with referring units to teach patients and staff best practice in Peritoneal Dialysis (PD). The CTS works to fulfil the demand for patient training to ensure that patients are expertly and appropriately trained on Vantive's therapies to optimise outcomes and to minimise avoidable technique failures.
Critical to the success of the role is the use of innovative and evidence-based teaching practices, to teach and educate staff and patients in order to improve technique and therapy success. The role needs to be flexible in their approach to facilitate the patient demand for training in a timeframe that meets their dialysis needs.
- Teach and empower patients in self-management of PD by providing high quality evidence-based patient training to patients following referral from NHS hospitals at primarily at EC, but also in the patient’s own home or hospital as required.
- Educate, advise and train healthcare professionals on best practice patient training methods for PD, adopting a train the trainer approach where needed, to maintain and develop skills in the referring hospitals.
- Support in on site education of junior healthcare teams in basic and essential skills for managing patients on PD therapy.
- Work closely with Renal Therapy Specialist (RTS) to assist with education plans for specific identified hospitals in line with agreed growth plans.
- Work closely with teaching hospitals to allow the center to be used as an education environment for observation of training particularly Renal Course nurses and new to PD nurses.
- Complete high quality training records, document training provided and feedback to hospital staff.
- Provide innovative refresher and follow-up training support for patients.
- Support internal training initiatives as subject matter experts to drive clinical excellence amongst the Vantive commercial teams.
- Support the EC manager in maintaining Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulations and be inspection ready.
- Safeguarding the wellbeing of service users and staff in line with regulated activities of the CQC.
- Regular auditing to monitor the quality of our education service any concerns and complaints to ensure continuous improvement.
- Participate in governance processes identifying learning opportunities.
- Support the PD knowledge and development of NHS staff and provide educational sessions on basic skills either face to face or remotely.
- Provide high quality via a remote platform should the patient need this service.
Requirements:
- Adult Nursing degree or equivalent required. (Currently listed on NMC register (Essential)
- Computer literacy skills – Office 365 (Essential)
- Demonstrate strong teaching and communication skills, both written and verbal, to support training and education services with patients and customers (internal and external) (Essential)
- Flexible approach to problem solving (Essential)
- Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience (Advantage)
- A knowledge of dialysis systems and processes (Advantage)
- Customer relationship building skills (Advantage)
