People & Culture Advisor - 6 Month Interim Contract

Salary: £33,450 - £41,160 pro rata

6-month contract | Hybrid | Derby / Flexible Location

Are you an experienced HR / People Advisor who enjoys being close to the operational side of HR and confidently supporting managers through employee relations issues? We're recruiting a People & Culture Advisor to join an established, values-led charity on a six-month contract. This is a varied, hands-on role where you'll use your HR knowledge and judgement to provide practical advice to managers and help them navigate people issues fairly, confidently and in line with employment law. You'll be joining at an important time for the People team, providing additional capacity not only to manage day-to-day priorities, but also to help improve processes, systems and ways of working.

What you'll be doing

  • A key focus will be providing first-tier Employee Relations advice and support, including:
    • Sickness and absence management
    • Performance and capability
    • Unsuccessful probation
    • Disciplinary and grievance matters
    • Supporting investigations and sensitive ER cases
    • Advising managers on HR policies, procedures and employment law
    • Occupational Health and family-friendly matters
    • Supporting wider People projects and organisational change

You'll work directly with managers, helping them understand the right course of action and providing pragmatic, legally sound advice, while escalating more complex matters to the People Partners where appropriate.

Is this you?

You'll need to be CIPD Level 5 qualified or equivalent, with previous experience working at HR / People Advisor level within a busy HR environment. Importantly, you'll have:

  • Strong, hands-on Employee Relations experience
  • Experience advising managers on sickness, performance, unsuccessful probation, disciplinary and grievance matters
  • Strong and up-to-date UK employment law knowledge
  • Confidence interpreting and applying HR policies and procedures
  • The ability to build credible relationships with managers and provide practical, solutions-focused advice
  • The ability to manage a varied workload and work with a good degree of autonomy

Experience within a charity or a regulated environment, supporting TUPE processes or working with trade unions would be particularly advantageous. You'll have responsibility for supporting colleagues and managers within the Derby service, while working alongside two People Partners to support services across the wider organisation. There is flexibility around where you are based, provided you are comfortable travelling when required, including attendance at the Wimbledon office approximately once every couple of weeks to connect with the wider People team.

This is a great opportunity to join a purpose-led organisation where you'll have the autonomy to use your HR expertise, work closely with managers and make a genuine contribution during the six-month assignment. If you're an experienced HR / People Advisor who can quickly get up to speed and confidently handle first-tier ER matters, we'd love to hear from you.
