Position Overview
The Energy Team is searching for a dynamic and insightful Energy Strategist to lead the design and execution of energy strategies for hyperscale AI and Cloud data centres. This role centres on powering these critical facilities through a range of innovative options while ensuring the organisation's infrastructure is resilient, scalable, and futureāready. The Energy Strategist will collaborate closely within and across teams, actively engaging with colleagues and stakeholders to drive solutions and deliver impactful outcomes. Reporting to the Senior Director of Energy Solutions & Development, the Energy Strategist will emphasize developing optimum operating models, fast paths to power, and strategic pathways for divestment when necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively within the Energy Team and across business units to design, assess, and recommend comprehensive strategies for powering hyperscale AI and Cloud data centres, including grid integration, onāsite generation, renewable energy, energy storage, advanced demand response mechanisms, optimum operating models, fast path to power, and divestment options.
- Develop multiple scenarioābased energy plans for these facilities, evaluating technical, economic, regulatory, and sustainability impacts of each approach to ensure all possibilities are considered, with a strong emphasis on solutions and outcomes.
- Monitor and interpret market trends, regulatory shifts, and emerging technologies affecting the energy landscape for hyperscale AI and Cloud environments, providing actionable insights for leadership, the Energy Team, and crossāfunctional partners.
- Conduct detailed risk assessment and costābenefit analyses for all proposed solutions, supporting robust, dataādriven decisionāmaking in these missionācritical settings.
- Engage with internal teams, external partners, utilities, and industry leaders to identify and pilot cuttingāedge technologies in the hyperscale AI and Cloud data centre domain, focusing on collaborative approaches to achieving optimal results.
- Produce comprehensive reports, scenario analyses, and recommendations, presenting a full range of energy optionsāincluding optimum operational models and divestment strategiesāfor review by senior management and key stakeholders.
- Support the preparation of business cases, funding proposals, and strategic partnerships focused specifically on the unique demands of hyperscale AI and Cloud data centre energy strategies.
- Stay up to date on relevant legislation, policy developments, and best practices for energy management and sustainability in largeāscale data centre environments.
- Continuously adjust and refine energy strategies in response to changing business requirements, market dynamics, external conditions, and stakeholder feedback, ensuring that all plans remain agile and effective in a rapidly evolving industry, with a clear focus on delivering solutions and measurable outcomes.
Job Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Energy, Engineering, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Economics, or a related field (Master's preferred).
Experience & Skills
- At least 3 years of experience in energy strategy, largeāscale data centre operations, or sustainability consulting, with a focus on scenario planning and evaluating multiple options.
- Proven analytical expertise, demonstrated by developing multiāfasceted strategies for hyperscale or cloud infrastructure.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, especially regarding technical and business audiences in highāgrowth sectors.
- Project management experience delivering energy solutions for hyperscale, AIādriven, or Cloud data centre environments.
- Extensive knowledge of advanced energy technologies relevant to hyperscale data centres, including renewables, energy storage, microgrids, and smart grid integration.
