Site Operations Department
The Site Operations Department is responsible for the overall health of all mechanical and electrical systems, building maintenance, and performance of all data modules in our data centers. The team is staffed 24 x 7 onsite with Critical Facilities Engineers (CFEs) working on shift and reporting to a Chief Engineer. This team is the face of Vantage to our customers and the guarantee of business continuity and excellence of Operations of our campus as well as the performance of our customer installations. Using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to plan and track maintenance activities, the Site Operations Department is responsible for all preventative and corrective maintenance. Position Overview
The successful candidate for this Critical Facilities Technician role knows what best-in-class data center service looks like and can make that a reality. This role is an important member of our Operations team where we manage some of the most efficient and cost-effective data center facilities in the industry.
Persons this role will work with a team of other electrical and mechanical-focused engineers performing maintenance and repair for our data center infrastructure. We take our customer requirements for uptime seriously and keep our facilities maintained to a very high standard to ensure uninterrupted service for our customers.
If you enjoy working on critical data center systems (UPSs, PDUs, Diesel Generators, ATS equipment, and Building Controls), as well as industrial electrical equipment and systems that include power distribution components/wiring, electronic components, and lighting systems. Essential Job Functions
- Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facility systems. Areas include: Electrical, mechanical, building monitoring, and control.
- Ensure the completion of maintenance activities to the highest quality level of planification, preparation, execution, and reporting.
- Ensure the full reliability of the infrastructures with the focus on continuity of services and energy efficiency.
- Use the BMS (Building Management System) and all available systems to appropriately monitor the site including regular walkthroughs verifying the good working condition.
Duties
- Work in shifts, per assigned shift pattern and wear personal protective clothing depending on the work to be performed.
- Within applicable and authorized interventions according to the local regulation and the up-to-date certification(s) of the Critical Facilities Technician, be capable of manipulating/activating certain electrical and/or mechanical and/or security infrastructures for the purpose of protecting people and property and/or maintaining service continuity on the site.
- Use of the Building Management System (BMS) and regular onsite checks.
- With the assistance of the IT and Controls departments, ensure the proper operation of the site BMS.
- In close collaboration with the contractors, participate in the drafting of the preventive maintenance schedule for the site infrastructures and implement it in collaboration with all service providers concerned. Closely monitor the operations with a continuous concern for minimizing risks during interventions, and ensure the reporting of this activity.
- Operational management of suppliers and service providers, to document and plan preventive maintenance and/or repair activities. Using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and the Change Management Process.
- Closely monitor the work of vendors with a continuous concern for minimizing risks during interventions, ensuring cleanliness standards, and ensure proper reporting of the performed activity.
- Perform repair and maintenance activities as required.
- Implementation of improvement plans and small projects.
- Participate in the implementation of the site-specific crisis management plan and in the tests and implementation exercises concerning this plan.
- Participate in regular site audits and reviews, which are designed to assess the level of service continuity and analyze risks.
Job Requirements
- Technical education (advanced technician or engineer level) in one of the following areas: Electricity (generators, UPS, low voltage distribution), climate, and cooling.
- Experience in operating data centers or similar environments.
- Versatile technical knowledge, especially in the areas of operation, maintenance, and inspection of critical systems.
- English and Polish languages – The minimum level required is B1 (intermediate, able to understand and communicate about familiar topics and handle most everyday situations independently).
- Knowledge of fire protection and physical security (access control, video, and intrusion detection systems) or central building management systems is advantageous.
- Good communication skills with third parties and internal customers.
- Highly motivated at problem-solving.
- Attention to detail and a genuine commitment to following up on actions.
- Good writing skills.
- Everyday use of standard office equipment.
- Proven skills in the use of software, such as BMS, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.
Potential employees must complete a background check successfully.
Physical activities and requirements include ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like; raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position; raised floor work. Must be able to maneuver and work underneath and around raised floor of varying heights.
