We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join a specialist engineering team delivering advanced automation, materials handling systems, robotic solutions, and defence-related control panel projects. This role sits across multiple high-value industries, including industrial automation and defence engineering, and requires a strong understanding of both complex electrical design and automation compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and develop electrical design solutions for automated machinery, robotics systems, and materials handling equipment
- Design control panels, particularly for defence-sector applications (Derby-based projects)
- Work across full project lifecycle: concept, detailed design, build support, and commissioning
- Ensure compliance with relevant automation safety standards and legislation
- Develop safety documentation and functional safety requirements
- Collaborate with mechanical, software, and project engineering teams
- Support manufacturing and site teams during build and installation phases
- Work across multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 3+ years' experience in electrical design engineering (non-junior level)
- Strong background in automation, robotics, or materials handling systems
- Proven experience with control panel design and industrial electrical systems
- Solid understanding of automation safety standards and legislation
- Experience using: EPLAN (essential), SolidWorks Electrical (desirable / used internally)
- Knowledge of functional safety engineering tools such as SISTEMA
- Ability to interpret and apply engineering standards and compliance requirements
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams
- Flexible and willing to travel on an ad hoc basis
- British Nationals due to security clearance
