We are seeking a skilled Project Manager/Design Lead to support the planning, coordination, and delivery of complex water and wastewater projects. This role involves working across multi-disciplinary teams to ensure design excellence, compliance, and timely delivery of project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the project planner to create, maintain, and update detailed design management schedules.
- Develop and oversee the design deliverables plan with the project team, ensuring all upstream and downstream technical requirements are captured.
- Support supplier and subcontractor engagement, reviewing tenders for compliance and technical accuracy.
- Allocate and manage resources effectively to meet project timelines and deliverables.
- Assist in the preparation of scheme tender designs and contribute to cost estimation to ensure timely submission.
- Manage design documentation, including tracking design queries and requests for information (TQ/RFI).
- Liaise with clients to ensure design solutions meet requirements and comply with CDM regulations.
- Facilitate and participate in hazard studies, ensuring appropriate expertise is involved to support robust design decisions.
- Maintain and update the design risk register, highlighting key technical risks as they emerge.
- Ensure designs prioritize safety and that all health, safety, and CDM considerations are clearly documented.
- Stay current with engineering standards, client specifications, British standards, codes, and best practices.
- Provide regular technical updates to the project manager, commercial team, and client technical team.
- Prepare technical specifications to enable supplier engagement.
- Offer governance and guidance to the supply chain, aligning design outputs with client expectations.
- Provide direction and engineering oversight to team members as needed.
- Contribute to improving departmental processes and procedures to enhance efficiency.
- Deliver technical work in line with the design management plan, or ensure suitably qualified personnel complete tasks when specialized skills are required.
- Follow company engineering standards, systems, and procedures rigorously.
- Assess the competency of internal and external resources to ensure safe and compliant design delivery.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (working towards Chartered status).
- Experience in water and wastewater engineering.
- Proven track record working in multi-disciplinary teams delivering turnkey water and wastewater projects.
- Strong knowledge of NEC3/4 contracts and current CDM legislation.
- Commercial awareness, including experience managing budgets, risks, and supply chain performance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project and other project management tools.
- Excellent IT skills, with attention to detail and high accuracy.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
