An established and growing engineering business is looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Tendering Engineer to join its team based in Halesowen. The company specialises in the delivery of mechanical and electrical engineering solutions, primarily supporting clients across the water, utilities and process industries. Its mechanical division provides detailed engineering, fabrication and installation services, with a particular focus on mechanical pipework systems.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing technically compliant and commercially competitive mechanical tenders, taking enquiries from initial specification through to tender submission and supporting the handover of successful bids into the project delivery team.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare technically compliant and competitive mechanical tenders.
- Review client enquiries, specifications, drawings and supporting documentation.
- Produce material take-offs and Bills of Materials from GA drawings and P&IDs.
- Build tender costs covering materials, fabrication, mechanical equipment, labour and installation.
- Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations from both a technical and commercial perspective.
- Ensure tenders are completed accurately and within required timescales.
- Attend client sites where required to assess proposed works.
- Liaise directly with clients to obtain the technical and commercial information required to produce a complete tender.
- Prepare financial estimates and obtain the necessary internal approvals prior to tender submission.
- Attend post-tender meetings and provide technical/commercial clarification where required.
- Support project launch and handover meetings for successful tenders.
- Provide project teams with relevant pre-award information, material take-offs and estimated labour requirements.
- Review completed projects against original tender estimates to assess the accuracy of material, fabrication and labour costs.
- Work closely with engineering, fabrication and project delivery teams throughout the tendering process.
Experience Required
The successful candidate will ideally have 5+ years' experience within mechanical engineering, estimating or tendering, with strong knowledge of mechanical pipework and fabrication. Experience should include:
- Large-diameter mechanical pipework, particularly carbon steel and stainless steel.
- Producing material take-offs from GA drawings.
- Reading and interpreting P&ID drawings.
- Mechanical equipment and associated systems.
- Pipework fabrication and installation.
- Understanding of different pipework coatings and specifications.
- Preparing estimates, quotations or tenders.
- Experience within the water industry would be highly advantageous.
- A good understanding of labour, material and fabrication costs.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise with clients, suppliers and internal engineering teams.
About You
You will be a mechanically biased engineer with a strong commercial awareness and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately. You should be comfortable taking ownership of tenders, managing multiple enquiries and working closely with both clients and internal engineering teams. A background within mechanical pipework, fabrication, water treatment, utilities or process engineering would be particularly well suited to the position.
