Job Title: Design Manager Other details: Barnsley, South Yorkshire (hybrid) £70,000-£85,000+ 40 hours per week flexible working times About the Role We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead our dynamic team of 15 design engineers. In this role, you will oversee the timely and budget-conscious completion of pre-project documentation and designs. Acting as a key liaison for clients during the pre-project phase, you will allocate designers to projects, manage cost estimations and budgets, and maintain strong relationships with design and operations managers across multiple sites. Your responsibilities will also include ensuring quality assurance across design deliverables and streamlining internal and external processes. Spearhead recruitment efforts to support the anticipated growth of the design team this year. Key Responsibilities Manage and support a team of 15 design engineers, ensuring deliverables are completed Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, fostering strong relationships and ensuring client requirements are met. Assign designers to projects based on expertise and project needs Create cost estimations and budgets Ensure all design deliverables meet quality standards and comply with industry regulations. Streamline internal and external processes to enhance efficiency Spearhead hiring activities Required Skills and Experience Proven experience in design engineering within mechanical, electrical, or civil disciplines Demonstrated management experience is highly desirable; however, aspiring managers with relevant experience and a proactive attitude will be considered. Experience with cost estimations, budget management, and adherence to project timelines. Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse personalities and stakeholders. Extensive exposure to the water treatment or wastewater industries is essential. Experience working for a design and build contractor is essential. Proven experience in regular client liaison and relationship management. Broad understanding of various design disciplines to support team members and project requirements. A natural self-starter with a compassionate approach and the ability to motivate teams, ensuring alignment with company culture. Strong ability to lead by example in all aspects of the role.
