An established UK manufacturer and market leader in outdoor electrical equipment is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team. With over 30 years of innovation in robust, outdoor power solutions, the business continues to invest in new product development and manufacturing capability. This opportunity offers genuine ownership of products from concept through to manufacture.

The Role

  • You will lead the full mechanical design and development lifecycle across a range of ruggedised outdoor electrical enclosures and associated products.
  • This is a hands‑on role requiring strong visualisation skills, technical depth, and the ability to develop concepts into production‑ready solutions.
  • Designing and developing new products, parts and components from concept to manufacture.
  • Creating complex SolidWorks assemblies and detailed production drawings.
  • Designing plastic and metal enclosures, including injection moulding and sheet metal components.
  • Performing mechanical design calculations and validation analysis.
  • Producing full technical documentation including BOMs and electrical schematics.
  • Ensuring designs are cost‑effective, safe, and compliant with ISO9001 standards.
  • Working closely with suppliers and manufacturers to support tooling and production.
  • Managing your own project timelines and priorities.

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (BSc, HND or equivalent).
  • Proven experience as a Senior Mechanical Design or Product Design Engineer.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks.
  • Demonstrable experience designing plastic and metal enclosures.
  • Knowledge of injection moulding, tooling, draft angles and DfM principles.
  • Experience taking products from concept through to production.
  • General understanding of electrical/electronic integration.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently.
  • Experience modelling wiring harnesses or integrating electrical components within mechanical designs would be advantageous.
