Location: Preston (3 days in office per week - must be commutable to Preston)

Role Overview: We are seeking a Mechanical Design Lead to join our team and play a key role in delivering projects within the UU framework for AMP8 and beyond. You will be responsible for producing high-quality mechanical design drawings, coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams, and leading site surveys with clients. As a design lead, you will also review engineering drawings, guide and mentor team members, and ensure technical excellence throughout the design process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create detailed mechanical design drawings in accordance with project guidelines and standards.
- Lead and review mechanical design deliverables, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Liaise effectively with internal stakeholders, multi-disciplinary teams, site engineers, and clients.
- Conduct and lead site surveys to gather essential project information.
- Provide technical support and mentorship to design team members.
- Communicate confidently with stakeholders across all levels to capture project requirements and resolve queries.
- Support project documentation, including P&IDs, MCC & control panel layouts, piping layouts, and other design deliverables.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Proven experience in mechanical design engineering.
- Strong communicator - a "people person" able to work confidently with a variety of personalities and stakeholder groups.
- Experience leading teams and supporting technical queries.
- Extensive exposure to the water treatment or wastewater industries is essential.
- Experience working for a design and build contractor (preferably Tier 1).
- Comfortable liaising with clients to efficiently capture project requirements.
- A proactive self-starter with excellent organisational skills.
- Senior level proficiency in AutoCAD (Mechanical).
- Experience with mechanical design activities including P&IDs, control panels, MCCs, piping layouts, and associated documentation.
