We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Estimator to join a growing business based in Slough. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in M&E, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or Construction who is looking to lead an estimating team while managing the preparation of accurate and commercially competitive tenders.
The Role
As Senior Estimator, you will take responsibility for producing and overseeing high-quality cost estimates, tender submissions and pricing strategies for new and existing contracts. You'll work closely with Sales, Commercial and Operations teams to ensure bids are competitive, compliant and delivered on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation and review of detailed cost estimates and tender submissions.
- Manage the estimating team, allocating workload and providing day-to-day leadership.
- Review client specifications, drawings and tender documentation.
- Prepare pricing models, cost plans and commercial proposals.
- Carry out site surveys where required.
- Obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Support bid/no-bid decisions through commercial and risk analysis.
- Attend client meetings, tender interviews and presentations.
- Ensure smooth handover of successful contracts to the Operations team.
- Maintain accurate CRM and estimating records.
- Coach and develop junior estimators while promoting continuous improvement.
About You
To be successful, you will have:
- A minimum of 7 years' estimating experience within M&E, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or Construction.
- Experience preparing complex and high-value tenders.
- Previous experience leading or mentoring an estimating team.
- Strong commercial awareness and pricing knowledge.
- Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills, with experience using estimating software.
- A good understanding of tendering processes, SLAs and contract frameworks.
- Excellent organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline would be advantageous.
