An established transport and engineering business is seeking an experienced Service Engineer to join its team. This is a hands-on role involving the inspection, servicing, fault diagnosis and repair of a range of heavy vehicles and specialist equipment.
The Role
- Carry out routine servicing, inspections and repairs on distribution tractors, heavy vehicles and specialist equipment.
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical and system faults using modern diagnostic equipment and technical manuals.
- Undertake thorough inspections of accident-damaged vehicles and provide accurate reports to support repairs.
- Complete preventative maintenance and repairs in line with manufacturer recommendations and safe working procedures.
- Ensure accurate completion of service, inspection and repair documentation.
- Aim to achieve a first-time fix while maintaining high standards of workmanship and customer service.
- Work independently to prioritise workload and meet deadlines, while supporting colleagues and other departments where required.
About You
- City & Guilds Level 3 in Vehicle Mechanical and Electronic Systems - Maintenance & Repair, or an equivalent qualification.
- Substantial experience in auto-electrical fault finding and repair.
- Experience working with heavy goods vehicles, distribution vehicles or specialist vehicles/equipment.
- Strong knowledge of modern vehicle diagnostic systems and electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Good understanding of relevant road traffic legislation, including vehicle weight restrictions and drivers' hours.
- Full, valid driving licence.
- Able to work under pressure, manage your own workload and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a proactive approach to problem solving.
