About the Role

VANRATH are delighted to be partnering with a leading public sector organisation to recruit a Discrimination Advice Officer on a temporary basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with experience in legal advice, complaints handling, equal opportunities, human rights, HR, industrial relations, or social rights to join a busy and supportive team providing guidance to members of the public. The successful candidate will support individuals who believe they may have experienced discrimination, providing information and guidance in relation to Northern Ireland's anti-discrimination legislation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to enquiries and correspondence via telephone, email, and face-to-face meetings where required.
  • Gather and accurately record information relating to complaints and requests for advice.
  • Provide clear, professional, and empathetic guidance to members of the public.
  • Process applications and maintain accurate records and database systems.
  • Support individuals seeking information regarding discrimination complaints, equality matters, and related issues.
  • Ensure all information is managed in line with data protection requirements and organisational procedures.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a wider advice and casework team.

The Ideal Candidate

Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience in an advisory or casework-based role within areas such as legal services, HR, industrial relations, equality, social rights, or complaints handling.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to deal professionally and sensitively with members of the public.
  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
  • The ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
  • A team-focused approach with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of discrimination legislation or equality-related issues would be highly advantageous.
