VANRATH are delighted to be partnering with a growing and highly successful construction and facilities services organisation to recruit a FM/Construction Buyer. This is a newly created position offering the successful candidate the opportunity to take ownership of procurement and supply chain activity across a diverse and expanding business. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping procurement strategy, driving commercial performance, enhancing supplier relationships, and supporting the continued growth of the business.

The Role

Reporting to senior leadership, the Group Buyer will lead procurement and supply chain activities across subcontractor, labour, materials and operational purchasing requirements. The role combines strategic planning with hands-on delivery, ensuring robust procurement processes, effective supplier management, commercial governance and cost control across the organisation.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing procurement strategies across multiple spend categories
  • Reviewing and optimising existing supplier relationships and supply chain performance
  • Negotiating commercial agreements and securing best-value purchasing arrangements
  • Managing subcontractor and supplier frameworks, contracts and commercial terms
  • Building and maintaining approved supplier and product registers
  • Driving supplier performance management and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Identifying cost-saving opportunities and delivering commercial efficiencies
  • Monitoring procurement spend and producing management reports and analysis
  • Supporting operational, commercial and project delivery teams with procurement expertise
  • Contributing to tender submissions and ensuring supply chain commitments are commercially robust
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant contractual, legislative and industry requirements

The Person

Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven experience within procurement, buying, supply chain management or commercial management
  • Experience gained within construction, building services, M&E, engineering, facilities management or a related sector
  • Strong supplier negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience managing subcontractors and specialist supply chains
  • Commercially focused with a track record of delivering cost savings and process improvements
  • Ability to analyse spend data and make informed procurement decisions
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to work independently and drive change
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities

Desirable

  • CIPS qualification or working towards accreditation
  • Experience within a multi-site operational environment
  • Knowledge of public sector procurement environments
  • Experience implementing supplier performance frameworks and procurement controls
  • Familiarity with procurement and supplier management software platforms
