A leading UK provider of software solutions to the Travel Insurance sector is seeking an experienced Senior Software Developer to join its development team. The company provides a software platform used by insurance businesses to sell and manage policies through call centres, direct websites, and price comparison sites. Its client base spans the UK and international markets, ranging from smaller brokers to large corporate organisations. The business operates in a fast-paced technology environment, where new technologies and changing market requirements create opportunities to improve processes, develop new solutions, and enhance the quality of service provided to customers.

Please note: Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK. This position does not offer visa sponsorship. Candidates must be based in Belfast or be willing to relocate to Belfast for the role.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Developer to enhance and extend a well-established software platform. You will collaborate with the wider development team to build new public-facing websites and improve operational efficiency through the creation of reusable, scalable code. A key focus will be reducing duplication, improving maintainability, and supporting the long-term development of the platform.

You will have 5+ years of commercial software development experience and be a proactive, self-motivated developer who can translate written requirements into functional and technical designs. You will be confident producing clean, efficient, and maintainable code and working collaboratively within an established development team. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to a product used internationally while continuing to develop your own technical skills and expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance multiple eCommerce websites
  • Integrate new UI/UX designs into existing web application frameworks
  • Implement user interfaces for new features based on client and design specifications
  • Design, develop, and maintain reusable components using jQuery and C#
  • Ensure high standards of performance, scalability, and security across solutions
  • Identify and implement improvements to existing systems and development processes
  • Collaborate closely with Development, QA, and Project Management teams to deliver high-quality outcomes

Skills & Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Extensive commercial experience developing complex, maintainable object-oriented applications in C#
  • Strong experience with .NET Framework and MVC, with newer projects using .NET 10 and React
  • Proven experience building and integrating REST APIs or WCF services
  • Strong understanding and practical application of design patterns and SOLID principles
  • Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server
  • Proficiency in HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, and front-end frameworks such as Bootstrap
  • Experience using Git for source control and Azure DevOps for repository and branch management
  • Experience with Entity Framework
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative development team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to produce clear and structured technical documentation
  • Self-motivated approach to learning and keeping up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Existing right to work in the UK - visa sponsorship is not available
  • Based in Belfast

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure PaaS services
  • Experience working with .NET Core / modern .NET
  • Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks, particularly React (v17+), and the npm ecosystem
  • Familiarity with modern front-end build tools and development workflows
  • Experience applying Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications
