The Role

We are seeking someone to support the development of future system operations. The focus of these roles is to help assess, design, and implement changes required to enable a secure, low-carbon energy system capable of supporting high levels of renewable generation. These positions sit within a transformation and innovation function focused on system design, operational policy, and future energy frameworks. You will work closely with internal technical teams, external network operators, regulators, and industry stakeholders to evaluate and support future system solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technology & Innovation Focus
    • Support delivery of strategic operational improvement and innovation programmes
    • Assess impacts of new and emerging energy technologies on system performance
    • Contribute to trials, pilots, and evaluation of new technical solutions
    • Support integration of flexible energy resources (e.g. storage, demand response)
    • Help develop internal capability in emerging technologies
  • System Development & Operating Model Focus
    • Support design of future electricity system operational frameworks
    • Contribute to development of coordinated transmission and distribution approaches
    • Translate regulatory and policy requirements into operational processes
    • Assist with long-term implementation planning and system transformation work
    • Support integration of distributed energy resources into system operations
  • Shared Responsibilities
    • Engage with internal teams and external stakeholders across industry and regulatory bodies
    • Support compliance, governance, and reporting activities
    • Produce analytical reports, presentations, and technical documentation
    • Contribute to system transformation, innovation, and strategy initiatives
    • Support broader demand, flexibility, and energy transition programmes

What We're Looking For

  • Essential
    • Degree in a STEM, economics, business, or related discipline with 3+ years relevant experience
    • Understanding of electricity systems, including generation, demand, and emerging technologies
    • Experience working with data using tools such as Python, R, or Excel
    • Experience in technical, operational, or regulated environments
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively
    • Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Desirable
    • Experience working in regulated or infrastructure-heavy industries
    • Knowledge of energy transition, decarbonisation, or renewable integration
    • Understanding of electricity markets or system operations
    • Awareness of regulatory frameworks and compliance environments
    • Experience with data visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau)
