Responsibilities:
The Hygiene Supervisor plays a key role in ensuring that the factory environment and equipment are maintained to the highest standard of cleanliness and hygiene. The role supports the Hygiene Lead and involves supervising the hygiene team, maintaining compliance with internal procedures, and ensuring the site is audit-ready at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise the hygiene team on a day-to-day basis, including managing shift rotas, holiday cover, task allocation, and training.
- Ensure all hygiene operations are carried out in accordance with site procedures and cleaning schedules.
- Maintain a full understanding of COSHH regulations and ensure safe handling and use of cleaning chemicals.
- Oversee Health & Safety procedures within the hygiene team and maintain required documentation.
- Report all potential hygiene or health & safety hazards and unsafe practices to the Production and Technical Managers.
- Ensure the correct use and condition of all PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
- Conduct stock takes and manage the ordering of cleaning supplies and materials.
- Perform post-engineering cleans following maintenance or technical work.
- Ensure all factory areas are audit-ready and support the site during visits or inspections.
- Deliver training sessions to hygiene team members and support onboarding of new staff.
- Complete GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and hygiene audits, follow up on corrective actions, and provide feedback to the Technical Department.
- Assist in microbiological investigations and root cause analysis of any hygiene-related non-conformances.
- Undertake any other duties as required that are reasonable and consistent with the responsibilities of the role.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Previous experience in a hygiene role within a food manufacturing or similar environment.
- Strong understanding of hygiene standards, cleaning systems, and factory procedures.
- Supervisory or team leader experience.
- Good knowledge of COSHH regulations and chemical handling.
- Strong awareness of Health & Safety practices.
- Able to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to lead, motivate and train a team.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or higher)
- COSHH Training
- Health & Safety Qualification (e.g. IOSH Managing Safely)
