Our public sector client is seeking an experienced and motivated HGV Driver to join their Operations team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a well-structured organisation delivering essential frontline services to the community. This will be an initial 3-6 month contract with great likelihood of extension.

The Role

As a Waste Resource Management Driver, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality waste and recycling services across the borough. Duties include:

  • Driving and operating specialist vehicles (Category C1) to support waste collections, street cleansing, and environmental services.
  • Supervising and supporting crew members to ensure safe, efficient operations.
  • Carrying out routine vehicle checks, maintenance, and safety reporting.
  • Assisting the public at Household Recycling Centres and maximising recycling opportunities.
  • Collecting domestic, commercial, bulky, and recyclable waste, ensuring safe handling and adherence to service standards.
  • Supporting other frontline services during adverse weather or emergencies (e.g., gritting and snow clearance).

About You

We are looking for individuals who can work both independently and as part of a team, with strong organisational and customer service skills. Essential criteria include:

  • Valid Category C1 licence.
  • Full CPC / Driver Qualification Card.
  • Minimum 1 years' experience operating with a Category C1 licence.
  • Working knowledge of health & safety procedures (manual handling, reversing assistants).
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and reliability.

Desirable:

  • Current valid driving licence minimum C1+ E.
  • Previous experience in the waste management sector, particularly refuse collection and recycling.
  • Experience operating mechanical sweepers.
