Our client, a respected local authority in Northern Ireland, is seeking to appoint a dedicated Environmental Health Officer to join their Sustainability team. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting the health and wellbeing of local communities through a diverse and rewarding role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enforce a wide range of Environmental Health legislation across commercial and residential settings.
  • Conduct proactive inspections, audits, and risk assessments in line with legal and policy frameworks.
  • Investigate environmental complaints and incidents including pollution, food safety, workplace accidents, and infectious disease outbreaks.
  • Collaborate with partner agencies to promote public health campaigns and deliver educational initiatives.
  • Prepare statutory notices, legal case files, and act as expert witness when required.
  • Provide guidance across council departments and contribute to strategic environmental planning.

Candidate Requirements:

Essential:

  • Degree (Level 6 or above) in Environmental Health, eligible for CIEH membership.
  • Minimum 6 months\' relevant experience.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and IT skills.
  • Knowledge of current Environmental Health legislation.
  • Valid driving licence or access to suitable transport.

Desirable:

  • One year post-graduate experience in Environmental Health.
  • Additional technical or management qualifications.

Additional Information:

  • Some out-of-hours work may be required, for which appropriate remuneration will apply.
  • Role may involve travel across the borough and requires adaptability in emergency situations.
  • Basic Disclosure Check required (AccessNI).
