Mechanical Design Technician Location: Limavady Area Contract: Full-Time | Permanent

We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Design Technician on behalf of a growing engineering and manufacturing business within the Limavady area. This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy Mechanical Design team supporting the delivery of bespoke engineered products within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting design engineers through the creation and management of 3D models, manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and release documentation, helping ensure accurate and controlled information is issued to production.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Design, the Mechanical Design Technician will provide essential CAD and documentation support to the Mechanical Design function. This role is ideal for someone with strong CAD skills and a detail-focused mindset who enjoys working within a technical manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • CAD & Drawing Support
    • Create and update 3D models using Autodesk Inventor
    • Produce and revise manufacturing drawings from 3D models
    • Prepare manufacturing and release files as required
    • Carry out controlled drawing and model amendments following design changes
    • Support the preparation of drawing packs for manufacturing release
    • Ensure drawings are accurate, clearly dimensioned, and suitable for shop floor use
    • Assist with updates to templates, assemblies, and standard parts libraries
  • BOM & Release Management
    • Create, update, and verify Bills of Materials
    • Ensure BOMs align with current models and manufacturing drawings
    • Support the preparation and control of manufacturing release packs
    • Assist with revision control, lifecycle updates, and CAD housekeeping within Vault
    • Help minimise errors caused by outdated or mismatched design information
  • Design Team Support
    • Support Design Engineers with drawing amendments and CAD preparation tasks
    • Implement updates following design reviews, manufacturing feedback, or client changes
    • Carry out simple design modifications under guidance from senior team members
    • Maintain consistency across drawings, models, and manufacturing information
    • Assist with repeatable CAD tasks and documentation updates
  • Manufacturing Support
    • Respond to drawing and BOM queries from production teams
    • Clarify manufacturing information and support updates where required
    • Assist with resolving drawing and BOM issues identified during assembly
    • Support improvements in the quality and clarity of information issued to the shop floor
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Follow internal CAD, drawing, and revision control standards
    • Support standardisation of templates, release packs, and design documentation
    • Contribute to improving design process efficiency and reducing repeat errors
    • Help maintain a clean and organised design library structure

The Person

We are keen to speak with candidates who have:

  • Experience using 3D CAD software, ideally Autodesk Inventor
  • Ability to create and update manufacturing drawings
  • Good understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • A methodical and structured approach to work
  • Good communication skills and ability to work within a team environment
  • willingness to follow established standards and procedures

Desirable Experience

  • Autodesk Vault or similar PDM systems
  • Sheet metal design, DXFs, flat patterns, punching, or folding processes
  • Experience creating or checking BOMs
  • Manufacturing environments such as switchgear, electrical enclosures, fabrication, or control panels
  • Understanding of design for manufacture and assembly principles
