Facilities Technician
Location: Derry
A leading manufacturer is seeking an experienced Facilities Technician to join its facilities team in Derry. Reporting to the Contractor & Facilities Manager, you will play a key role in the maintenance, repair and day-to-day operation of the site's building and facilities systems, covering electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and associated plant equipment. This is a varied role that combines hands-on facilities maintenance with contractor coordination, preventative maintenance, administration and team supervision.
The Role
You will work closely with the Contractor & Facilities Manager to ensure the site remains safe, efficient and fully operational.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out, planning and overseeing preventative maintenance across site systems
- Maintaining heating, chilling, compressed air, HVAC and other plant systems
- Ensuring auxiliary plant and equipment operates safely and efficiently
- Using computerised maintenance systems to raise, schedule and track work orders and repairs
- Coordinating contractors and following up to ensure work has been completed satisfactorily
- Ordering facilities spares and maintaining appropriate stock levels
- Creating purchase requisitions and purchase orders
- Placing orders and supporting general facilities administration
- Maintaining organisation of stores and facilities equipment
- Supporting the Contractor & Facilities Manager with day-to-day facilities activities
- Providing cover for the Contractor & Facilities Manager during periods of absence
- Scheduling upcoming preventative maintenance and servicing
- Supporting sustainability and energy‑saving projects
- Supporting waste management projects and initiatives
- Creating training documents and Job Safety Analyses where required
- Ensuring training remains up to date across the facilities team
Team Supervision
The role will also have responsibility for supporting the day-to-day management of the cleaning and grounds teams.
This will include:
- Coordinating day-to-day activities
- Holiday planning and cover
- Performance reviews
- Return-to-work follow-up
- Supporting disciplinary processes where required
- Stock control
- Supporting recruitment of new cleaning staff
- Ensuring required training is completed and maintained
About You
We are looking for someone with a hands-on trade background who is looking to develop their career within facilities management.

- Facilities maintenance background
Essential Criteria
- Background in electrical, mechanical or plumbing trades
- Experience using power tools
- Good understanding of health & safety requirementsKnowledge of COSHHStrong problem-solving skillsGood attention to detailAbility to work independently and as part of a teamGood computer literacy, including Microsoft Word and ExcelPhysically capable of carrying out manual work, including lifting and climbingWillingness to work across a range of environments including plant rooms, roof-level areas and potentially cold or noisy areas
