Overview

To deliver a high quality customer focused service to visitors, with specific emphasis on delivering an immersive experience of baking bread over an open fire. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver an efficient, effective, courteous and comprehensive visitor experience by demonstrating knowledge and history of the area. Contribute to the delivery of the Tourism Strategy and promote their tourism attractions. Responsible for the safety of visitors and staff, deliver a visitor experience by implementing and adhering to strict health and safety procedures.

What you'll do

  • Provide a first class level of customer experience to all visitors and meeting each individual's needs.
  • Prepare, set and light the open fire.
  • Order ingredients for baking demonstrations through approved procurement procedure.
  • Carry out period costumed, live baking demonstrations over the open fire in the Cottage, including traditional baking of soda bread and pancakes.
  • Be responsible for costume maintenance such as making sure that costumes are properly stored, cleaned and restored.
  • Provide a series of tours, offering information and knowledge to visitors about country and farming life and the history of the cottage.
  • Wash and clean equipment and general cleaning and tidying of cottage and interpretative centre.
  • Deliver historic craft sessions as required.
  • Responsible for opening and closing of cottage and centre, ensuring the premises are left safe and secure.
  • Check supplies and raise orders for turf.
  • Assist in other attractions and Visitor Information Centres if required.
  • Act as key holder to the premises and on call for alarm if required.
  • Undertake a range of administrative duties as required.
  • Research, develop and deliver appropriate tour commentary for different categories of visitors.
  • Assist with the planning and management of events associated with the promotion of the homestead.

About you

Applicants must:

  • Have a minimum of 5 GCSE's (Grade A-C) or equivalent including English and Maths.
  • Have traditional baking skills.
  • Have knowledge of the history of farming and country life.
  • Have experience working in the tourism industry.

AND

Be able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples, that they have two years' experience to include:

  • Tour Guiding
  • Working with the general public

OR, for candidates who do not meet the qualification requirements as outlined above:

Be able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples, that they have 4 years' experience to include:

  • Craft Demonstrations
  • Baking Skills
  • Tour Guiding and tourism knowledge
  • Working with the general public
