VANRATH are assisting our client, a large Public Sector Organisation, in their search for a Fire Prevention Officer for 6 months initially with the possibility of extension.
Main role
The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Health and Safety Manager (FIRE) in the provision of a professional advisory service on all aspects of Fire Safety through expert advice and guidance and actively promote Fire Safety and its effective management throughout the organization to embed a culture of Fire Safety compliance.
Responsibilities
- To complete Fire Risk Assessments, Fire Drills and other related fire safety duties as directed by the Health and Safety Manager (FIRE).
- To support the development of a healthy and safe working environment through the provision of competent Fire Safety advice, guidance and information to all levels of staff as required, in liaison with other professionals as appropriate.
- To identify staff Fire Safety training compliance through the Fire Risk Assessment process.
- To assist with the development, review, promotion and implementation of the Client's Health and Safety policy/guidance documents / Fire Safety & Arson Prevention Policy/Fire Safety Management System to promote a healthy and safe working environment in line with legal requirements and policy.
- To assist in the development, review and implementation of Fire Safety standards which measure the effectiveness of existing Fire Safety policies/guidance to ensure consistency and continual improvement throughout the organization.
- To assist in the investigation of fire concerns made directly to the fire department and carry out an investigation where appropriate, under the direction of the Health and Safety Manager (FIRE) and/or Health and Safety Officer (FIRE).
- To assist the Health and Safety Manager (FIRE) in ensuring effective financial management and the efficient use of all resources.
- To perform fire safety inspections with relevant managers and/or trade union appointed health and safety representatives. Report findings with recommendations for action as appropriate.
Requirements
- 4 GCSE passes - Grade A*- C, including English and Mathematics / equivalent Level 2 qualification / or higher level relevant qualification AND Fire Risk Assessment Qualification (must include undertaking fire risk assessments) and minimum 12 months relevant work experience.
- Experience in the use of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience of delivering training programmes.
- Experience of completing reports.
- Experience of working independently to manage and undertake a programme of fire risk assessments on a range of premises.
- Experience identifying/recording fire risk assessments using healthcare HTM Firecode, PAS 79 and/or similar recognized fire risk assessment formats.
- Evidence of 12 months continuing professional development (CPD).
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written and presentation skills) to meet the needs of the post in full.
- Hold a full UK Driving licence.
