About your next employer: This role is within the Citizen Focus pillar in the newly created Corporate & Support Services Directorate. Reporting to the Customer Service & Digital Strategy Manager, you will play a key role in providing a wide-ranging, professional, customer-led service. The organisation is a large, reputable public sector body dedicated to community welfare, digital innovation, and efficient service delivery, with a diverse team committed to making a positive impact.

About you:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs, including English Language and Maths (Grade C or above), or equivalent qualifications.
  • At least 2 years' experience in a customer service environment, including dealing with the public, computerised accounting, and cash handling.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion and professionalism.

What you'll do:

  • Welcome visitors, provide advice, and signpost to relevant service areas.
  • Manage customer enquiries via phone and face-to-face, ensuring courteous and efficient service.
  • Process payments accurately, including cash, credit, and debit transactions, in line with council procedures.
  • Administer and maintain dog licences, waste collections, and online transactions via various portals.
  • Support digitalisation efforts by encouraging online payments and assisting with portal use.
  • Handle sensitive and challenging customer issues with professionalism.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing post, ensuring confidentiality and security.
  • Assist with the day-to-day operation of the reception area and provide support to relief staff.
