Lead Software Developer - 12-Month Contract Location: Belfast Salary: £44,039 plus a £10,445 annual salary supplement Contract: Temporary assignment for 12 months Start date: ASAP An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Software Developer to join a high-profile public-sector organisation in Belfast. You will lead and develop a software development team while taking technical ownership of business-critical applications and software projects. The role You will: Lead, coach and manage a team of software developers using Agile processes. Provide expert technical leadership across the full software development lifecycle. Help assess, prioritise and allocate incoming software development requests. Work with stakeholders to gather, develop and evaluate business requirements. Translate requirements into technical specifications, user stories and development tasks. Plan and lead feature delivery through Agile sprints using Azure DevOps. Lead the analysis, design, development, testing, documentation and implementation of software solutions using Microsoft technologies. Apply modelling techniques including conceptual models, data-flow diagrams and object-oriented design principles. Create user acceptance and performance testing plans using Azure DevOps Test. Quality-assure code to ensure it is clean, secure, effective and compliant with development standards and version-control practices. Oversee system integration and integration testing. Create and manage build and release definitions using Azure DevOps Pipelines. Produce project assessments, capacity plans and regular progress reports. Provide technical advice, training and support for bespoke business-critical applications, corporate systems and third-party software. Diagnose and resolve software bugs and technical issues, prioritising business-critical systems. Provide technical assurance and project management for corporate and departmental software projects. Oversee database design, including tables and relationships, using entity-relationship models. Oversee the implementation of database solutions using Microsoft SQL Server, SQL Server Management Studio and SQL. Manage and support cloud services including Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Teams and SharePoint Online. Work closely with Infrastructure and Service Desk teams to ensure software is securely provisioned and supported. Manage third-party software support contracts in line with procurement guidelines. Assess new software products and produce reports and recommendations. Provide ICT consultancy and represent the organisation on relevant corporate and inter-organisational working groups. Build effective relationships with senior stakeholders, business teams, external public-sector organisations and other legislatures. Support the development and implementation of IT policies, standards, procedures and security measures. Contribute to the continued delivery of effective ICT services and undertake other reasonable duties when required. Essential criteria Applicants must meet one of the following qualification and experience routes by the closing date. Route 1 A Bachelor's degree or higher in Computing, Computing Science, Software Engineering or another discipline relevant to Information Systems or Information Technology. At least one year's experience leading and managing an application development team. At least two years' experience in each of the following: Application development using Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 or later, C#/.NET or equivalent technologies, and ASP.NET. Agile software development using Azure DevOps. Database design using Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or later. Route 2 An HND or Foundation Degree in Computing or another discipline relevant to Information Systems or Information Technology. At least one year's experience leading and managing an application development team. At least three years' experience in each of the following: Application development using Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 or later, C#/.NET or equivalent technologies, and ASP.NET. Agile software development using Azure DevOps. Database design using Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or later. Relevant qualifications must contain at least 50% computing-related content.
