The team acts for healthcare professionals, regulated individuals and commercial clients across a broad range of complex and often high-profile matters. This includes fitness to practise proceedings before the GMC and GDC, as well as disciplinary proceedings, Ombudsman investigations, criminal matters, public inquiries and coronial cases This is an opportunity to work alongside leading Healthcare Partners on high-quality work, with significant exposure to clients, Counsel, experts and regulators. For the right individual, there is also the opportunity to play a genuine role in building and developing the practice, including helping to establish and lead a specialist sub-team as the wider Healthcare offering continues to grow. The Opportunity You will manage a varied and challenging caseload of fitness to practise matters, including high-profile cases, from initial referral and investigation through to interim orders hearings, substantive hearings and appeals. The work covers misconduct, professional performance and health cases, with responsibilities including: Detailed evidential analysis and providing strategic, commercially aware advice on procedural and evidential issues, potential sanctions and consensual disposal. Preparing witness statements, hearing bundles, evidence schedules, chronologies and case summaries. Advising on potential administrative challenges and judicial review proceedings. Advising healthcare professionals on disciplinary proceedings brought by healthcare trusts. Representing clients at police interviews and criminal trials. Advising on coronial investigations, including statements, evidential issues and advocacy at preliminary hearings and inquests. Representing clients at public and statutory inquiries. Building strong relationships with clients, regulators, professional bodies, Counsel and expert witnesses. Supervising and mentoring junior lawyers, paralegals and legal secretaries where appropriate. Contributing to business development, including article writing, networking and attending or presenting at specialist healthcare events. Who We're Looking For We are interested in speaking with lawyers who have experience in healthcare, regulatory or professional disciplinary work. Direct healthcare experience, particularly fitness to practise, would be ideal, but candidates with a strong broader regulatory or professional discipline background will also be considered. We are looking for lawyers who are technically strong, commercially minded and comfortable handling complex evidence and contentious matters, with the communication skills to build trusted relationships with clients and professional stakeholders. The level of experience is flexible, and the opportunity can be tailored to the successful candidate.
