We are currently working in partnership with a large public-sector organisation to recruit an experienced Health & Safety Advisor for a short-term contract within a busy operational environment. This role would suit a hands-on H&S professional who is confident operating across multiple sites, supporting managers and staff, and ensuring compliance with statutory health & safety requirements.
The Role
Reporting into an established Health & Safety function, the successful candidate will support the delivery and continuous improvement of health & safety policies, procedures and performance across operational services. Key responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking workplace health & safety inspections and audits, producing reports and corrective action plans
- Supporting managers with risk assessments (including COSHH, manual handling, DSE, noise, vibration and general H&S)
- Investigating incidents and near misses, including RIDDOR-reportable events, and liaising with relevant external bodies
- Providing professional H&S advice and guidance to staff, managers and stakeholders
- Supporting the development, delivery and promotion of internal health & safety training
- Assisting with policy development, reviews and organisational H&S reporting
- Attending meetings and committees as required and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
Essential Criteria
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health (or equivalent)
- Minimum 3 years' experience working in a Health & Safety Advisor role
- IOSH membership appropriate to qualifications
- Experience conducting inspections, audits and incident investigations
- Strong working knowledge of UK H&S legislation and best practice
- Full access to own transport to facilitate site visits
- Competent IT skills and experience producing reports and compliance documentation
- Ability to pass Basic Access NI clearance
