My client, an established SaaS company operating in the creative technology space, is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join their growing remote-first engineering team. This is a newly created position offering significant ownership across backend architecture, infrastructure, platform reliability, and security.

You will join a small, highly collaborative product team responsible for building and scaling a cloud-based platform used by creative and marketing teams to manage digital assets and content. This is an opportunity to have a genuine impact on technical direction, engineering standards, and long-term platform strategy.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will take ownership of backend architecture, API design, infrastructure, and platform reliability. You will work closely with developers across the business to improve scalability, security, performance, and operational excellence while helping to shape future engineering decisions using Node.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, and AWS cloud services while leading improvements across DevOps, deployment pipelines, monitoring, and software quality practices. You will also provide technical mentorship and help establish best-in-class engineering standards across the team.

The Person

  • 5+ years' experience in Backend or Full Stack Software Development with a strong backend focus
  • Deep expertise in Node.js and TypeScript
  • Proven experience working with AWS cloud infrastructure including services such as Lambda, RDS, S3, and IAM
  • Strong understanding of application security, authentication, authorisation, and secure API design
  • Experience designing, optimising, and scaling relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and production environments
  • Comfortable leading technical discussions and influencing architectural decisions
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • A collaborative approach with experience mentoring and supporting other engineers

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with real-time systems, collaborative applications, or distributed data models
  • Exposure to serverless and event-driven architectures
  • Experience working with large-scale file storage, media processing, or digital asset platforms
  • Previous experience working within startups, scale-ups, or small product-focused teams
  • Interest in platform engineering, observability, or developer tooling
